I visited the Isle of Wight with my family earlier this year and found out something interesting about Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, at Osbourne House. As we were admiring one of the rooms, I looked through the door we'd just come through and noticed the most hilariously out-of-place object in the entire building. This cabinet, bought by Albert himself on a trip to Paris, looking like it'd been taken straight from a Victorian funeral parlour:https://ift.tt/3x7pxwp have to stress that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, like it in the house. Everything is stunningly bright, ornate and colourful. This black totem of death is like a goth at a Debutante ball. I asked one of the house staff about it, and he said that this was Albert's taste. He also told me that nobody had known where to put it when it was first bought, and none of the current owners knew where to put it either, so they stuck it in this random corner hoping it wouldn't get noticed. How can you not notice that?! Look at it!I can just imagine Queen Victoria's frustration seeing this giant dark thing being carried into the house, but not having the heart to complain or get rid of it because she loved her Albert. So yeah, I learned Prince Albert was a goth before it was cool. via /r/funny https://ift.tt/3xa3KV1
