Have you ever learned something you thought was fake.... wasn't?

I have learned some things with all this time I have on my hands in quarantine. Among the worst being that narwhals are real. But this has triggered a memory of perhaps my worst one of these, from about twelve years ago....Borat was popular. My friends and I saw Borat when it was in theaters, blah blah blah. It was funny.. What a silly name for a country, Kazakhstan. I wondered why people were so offended by the movie. I mean, that's why they made up a fake country, right?Well, I was in for a surprise.I started noticing Kazakhstan on maps. Multiple maps. Instead of jumping to the logical conclusion that hey, idiot, Kazakhstan is real, my dumb ass was like wow it's crazy how popular Borat maps got. And they make them look real!! Finally my friend had one hung up in his apartment. I saw it and commented, I didn't know you liked Borat. "It was ok," he responded. Well, then why do you have a Borat map? "What?" Your map, it has Kazakhstan on it. It's a Borat map. "... That... That's just a map."At least I learned something that day.TL;DR thought Borat made up Kazakhstan for the movie and that every map I saw after was fake because it has Kazakhstan on it via /r/funny https://ift.tt/2W7MXB7
